What PersonaFi collects, why, who helps us run it, where it's kept, and how you can see, download or delete it. In plain English.

Last updated 11 October 2026

The short version

  • We never see your passwords. Your bank login stays with Basiq and your bank; your PersonaFi sign-in is handled by Google.
  • We use your data to run PersonaFi for you: your forecast, your plan, comparisons with similar households and your coach.
  • We don't sell your data, and the app has no advertising or analytics trackers.
  • Your coach uses OpenAI. Your question and the figures needed to answer it are sent to write the reply. Coach chats are deleted after 90 days.
  • Your data is stored on Google Cloud in the United States.
  • You're in control: download everything, disconnect your bank, or delete your account yourself, any time, from Settings.

What we collect

Your account

Your name and email address. If you sign up with a password, the password is held by Google Identity Platform, which runs PersonaFi's sign-in; PersonaFi itself never receives or stores it. If you sign in with Google, we get your name and email from Google.

Your profile

The answers you give us: your date of birth, who's in your household (adults, children and the youngest child's age group), whether you rent or own, your partner's date of birth if you add it, and your settings (your coach, how funny and blunt it is, your low-cash warning, alerts and theme).

Your bank data

When you connect a bank through Basiq, we receive your accounts, balances and transactions (dates, descriptions, merchants and amounts). If you upload a CSV from your bank instead, we read the transactions in the file.

What you add

Everything you set up in PersonaFi: category changes and rules, your forecast changes, assets, loans and super, life events, goals, spending commitments and plan settings.

Your coach

The questions you ask your coach and its answers (kept for 90 days), whether you marked a coach's answer as useful, and the summaries your coach writes for you (kept so the same summary isn't written twice).

How you use the app

Simple records of what you do in parts of the app, such as opening the tidy-up steps, taking a tour or adding a coach's suggestion to your plan, linked to your account. We use them to see what works and what doesn't. We also record how much each AI request costs and how long it took.

Alerts and support

If you turn on alerts, the details needed to send them: your email address for email alerts, or your browser's notification address for push alerts. And anything you send us by email.

How we use it

  • Connecting to your bank and keeping your transactions up to date.
  • Sorting your transactions into categories and matching transfers between your own accounts.
  • Forecasting your cash, projecting your net worth and working out your plan to retirement, with Australian tax, super and Age Pension rules.
  • Comparing your spending with similar Australian households, using public figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
  • Writing your coach's summaries and answering your questions.
  • Sending the alerts you've turned on, such as a warning when your cash is forecast to run low.
  • Fixing problems, checking the coach's answers are accurate, and improving PersonaFi.
  • Meeting our legal obligations.

PersonaFi doesn't make decisions about you, such as credit or eligibility decisions. Your coach explains your numbers and what a scenario would do; it doesn't recommend financial products or tell you what to do with super, investments, insurance or loans.

Your coach and AI

Your coach's summaries and answers are written by OpenAI's AI models. To write them, we send OpenAI:

  • your question, and the recent messages in that chat;
  • the figures needed to answer it, worked out by PersonaFi: things like your category totals, your forecast, your plan's results and, for a question about particular payments, the matching transactions (date, description, amount and category);
  • the coach you chose, so it can talk to you in character.

Your name stays with us. Before anything goes to OpenAI, PersonaFi swaps your first name for a stand-in name, and puts your name back in the reply before you see it. A name can still reach OpenAI if you type it into a chat yourself, or if it's part of a transaction description (for example, someone you paid).

We don't send your bank login, your email address or your full transaction history. The figures and what-ifs are calculated by PersonaFi, not by the AI; the AI puts them into words, and PersonaFi checks the reply only uses figures it was given before you see it.

Questions to your coach and its answers are kept for 90 days so we can check and improve them, then deleted automatically. You can see your past chats in the coach's Chats list, and they're included when you download your data.

Who helps us run PersonaFi

We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. These services handle it only to provide their part of PersonaFi:

WhoWhat they doWhat they get
BasiqConnects to your bank with your consent (an accredited open-banking provider).Your bank connection; they pass us your accounts, balances and transactions.
Google CloudRuns the app, stores your data and handles sign-in (Google Identity Platform).Everything PersonaFi stores, and your sign-in details.
OpenAIWrites your coach's summaries and answers. What's described in Your coach and AI.
ResendSends email alerts, if you turn them on.Your email address and the alert.
Your browser's push serviceDelivers push alerts, if you turn them on (run by your browser's maker, such as Google, Apple or Mozilla).A notification address and the alert.
Google Fonts and public code librariesServe the fonts and some of the code the pages use.Your IP address and browser details when a page loads, as with any website.

We'd also share information if the law requires it, for example to a regulator or a court.

Where your data is kept

PersonaFi stores your data on Google Cloud in the United States. OpenAI and Resend are also based in the United States, so information sent to them is handled there.

How long we keep it

  • While your account is open, we keep your data so PersonaFi can keep forecasting and comparing over time.
  • Coach chats are deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • When you delete your account, we revoke your bank connection with Basiq, delete your sign-in, and delete every record linked to your account. A clean-up runs straight away and again daily, and a deletion is only marked complete after a final check at least two hours later, to catch anything that was still arriving. The only thing we keep is a record that your account was deleted (your account ID and when), as proof we did it.

Your choices

  • See and download your data: Settings, then Download my data, gives you a spreadsheet of your transactions, monthly totals, profile answers and coach chats.
  • Correct it: change your profile and settings, recategorise any transaction, or change how any line is forecast.
  • Disconnect your bank: from your bank connections page. PersonaFi stops receiving new transactions from that bank.
  • Delete your account: Settings, then Delete my account. It's permanent and removes your data as described above.
  • Alerts: turn email and push alerts on or off in Settings.
  • Anything else: to ask what we hold about you, or for a correction you can't make yourself, email privacy@personafi.com.au.

Security

  • We never see your banking password: bank connections go through Basiq.
  • We never see your PersonaFi password: sign-in is handled by Google Identity Platform.
  • Pages and data are sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and Google Cloud encrypts the data it stores.
  • Your signed-in session is protected by a signed cookie, and admin access is limited to named PersonaFi staff who have signed in with a verified email.

More detail on our Security page.

No system is completely secure. If you think something's wrong with your account, email support@personafi.com.au straight away.

Cookies and your browser

PersonaFi uses one cookie to keep you signed in. Google's sign-in also keeps your sign-in state in your browser. A few small settings are remembered in your browser too, such as whether you've minimised your coach's summary, which category groups you've folded, and your current coach chat in that tab.

There are no advertising cookies and no analytics or tracking tools.

The law we follow

We handle your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. This page is our privacy policy under those principles.

Using a nickname

You don't have to use your real name in PersonaFi: any first name or nickname works, and it's what your coach calls you. We do need an email address so you can sign in, and some parts of PersonaFi need real details to work. For example, your retirement and Age Pension projections need your date of birth.

Marketing

We don't send you marketing. The emails and notifications PersonaFi sends are the alerts you turn on, and sign-in emails such as verifying your address or resetting your password. We don't give your details to anyone else for their marketing.

If something goes wrong

If there's a data breach that's likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires, and tell you what you can do to protect yourself.

If you're outside Australia

PersonaFi is built for people living in Australia: its tax, super, Age Pension and household comparisons use Australian rules and figures, so its numbers won't fit another country. Wherever you use it from, your data is handled as this page describes and stored in the United States.

Questions and complaints

Email privacy@personafi.com.au about anything on this page, or support@personafi.com.au for help with your account.

If you're not happy with how we handle a privacy complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
